Tinnitus & TMJ Pain
Tinnitus is the perception of sound when there is none coming from the environment. The noise varies between people but often it's a ringing or buzzing sound. The precise cause of tinnitus is not fully understood but it rarely indicates the presence of a serious underlying illness. It is nonetheless best to see a doctor when tinnitus-like symptoms first arise, to ensure there isn't a treatable cause which can be easily helped. No surgery or medication is available to abolish tinnitus but Sound Machines, which often form part of clinical treatment, can be very effective at enabling habituation to the noise and reducing distress; allowing people to got on with their lives. The sound machines, below, have been chosen by our Specialists for their world leading tinnitus technology.
A sub-group of tinnitus diagnoses are due to temperomandibular joint pain (often shortened to TMJ or TMD). In such cases, the tinnitus arises from chronic tension in muscles around the jaw. Relaxation techniques may help to alleviate this form of tinnitus. Audio-Visual Entrainment (AVE) and Cranio-Electro Stimulation (CES) work well for this purpose and so we've included a couple of such devices in this section.
