Why Does Light Therapy Work for Acne?

How does blue light kill the bacteria which cause acne?
The bacteria that cause acne (known a P. acne) produce a chemical called porphyrin. When safe natural visible blue light at a wavelength of 415 nm is shone onto the skin, the Porphyrins become excited. These 'activated' porphyrins have been clinically proven to destroy the acne causing bacteria.
