How does blue light kill the bacteria which cause acne?
The bacteria that cause acne (known a P. acne) produce a chemical called porphyrin.
When safe natural visible blue light at a wavelength of 415 nm is shone onto the skin, the Porphyrins become excited. These 'activated' porphyrins have been clinically proven to destroy the acne causing bacteria.
This is where the technology behind the LUSTRE Solo comes in.
LUSTRE harnesses the safe, blue part of the natural visible light spectrum, whilst leaving out the ultraviolet light (found in sunlight) which can damage the skin. No, LUSTRE Pure Light Technology delivers therapeutic safe natural blue light at a wavelength of 415 nm. This is not in the UV spectrum of the natural light wavelength. In clinical trials of blue light at 415 nm, there have been no reported incidences of UV skin damage.
